Our Practitioners At Spina Vita
Dr. Sian Fuller
Founder, Chiropractor
“Ultimately, pain is a warning light, much like that light that comes on in a car when the oil needs to be changed. The same can be said about our spines and joints. Humans are dynamic beings; we are supposed to move. However, with movement, there is sometimes dysfunction. Movement patterns, or biomechanical problems in joints may arise far earlier than when the pain sets in, so the question patients should be asking is, “Why should I wait for disease, surely there’s a way to prevent it?” If one doesn’t feel discomfort or pain, it doesn’t necessarily mean there is no dysfunction and this is why proactive health should be something patients strive for.
Dr Sian Fuller is a passionate, well-rounded Chiropractor and owner of Spina Vita situated in the northern suburbs of Johannesburg. She has two private practices in Parkmore and Sunninghill.
She studied Chiropractic at the University of Johannesburg, South Africa. Chiropractic at this institution is accredited under the European Council of Chiropractic. In university, Dr Sian had a keen interest in diagnostics, gross anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, clinical chiropractic and spinal manipulation.
Her Master’s thesis was titled: “Evaluating Chiropractic Students’ Hand Washing Principles Using GloGermTM as a Surrogate for Microbial Pathogens.” Her Master’s dissertation was presented in Berlin, Germany at the EPIC2019: Global Opportunities in Spine Care. This was very rewarding research as it brought to light the issues of infections and how proper hand washing can save lives.
Dr Sian is a keen sports enthusiast, with a particular interest in water sports such as swimming, wake boarding and wake surfing. During her intern years, she attended the ABSA Cape Epic with a team of chiropractors, treating cyclists during the event. She also treated participants at the 94/7 cycle race, KES water polo events, KES rugby events and several other hockey events.
Providing excellent and empathetic care is how Dr Fuller likes to roll. She wants patients to feel like they have had an opportunity to interact with a healthcare professional who cares about their well-being and who really emphasises proactive health. She believes in a holistic approach when it comes to patient health and wellbeing and has a special interest in sports, family-care, and geriatric health.
Her care aims at providing patients with educational information about being proactive about one’s health. The age-old question for doctors is, “Why do I only think or do something about my health when I’m sick?”
